Shorter hair often looks and feels thicker but cutting your hair won't alter its normal biologically determined growth rate or overall texture. Thin, limp or fine hair will not ever grow thicker in response to a haircut. Hair Extensions can be attached just for fullness and thickness as well as length. Myth No. 2: Virgin Root Hair Should Be Treated Differently True. The hair that is closest to the roots will react differently to the application of new hair color and chemical treatments. Hair color applied directly to the roots will process differently than color applied on hair that has already been treated. Myth No. 3 There is no way to prevent frizz. False. Bust daily frizz with shampoo formulas designed to add moisture to your hair. But avoid those containing protein, because they can dry your hair further. Always use a rinse-out conditioner and finish with a cool rinse to seal your hair cuticle. Add back weekly moisture with a deep conditioning treatment. Straightening balms and creams will counteract frizz on straight hair. Divide the hair into sections and using a big round brush, blow-dry each section, aiming air down your hair shaft. Apply a silicone-based finishing spray for an extra silky feel. Avoid bed head by sleeping on a satin pillowcase. Believe it or not cotton causes friction or static electricity that disrupts the hair follicles. Sleeping on satin will eliminate this problem and allow your hair to gently sweep across the pillow without the risk of unrully kinks and flyaway strands. What should you do when you hear an urban hair myth? When in doubt ask a true hair expert. This does not include your best bud, the local bartender or the checkout clerk at the local beauty mart. Always get the facts before you act on any hair rumors. Your hair will love you for it. For more information e-mail Dede at ddgray70@yahoo.com |
